Too many hurt feelings, too many emails arising from today's blog, so I got rid of it. I made a pact that this space would never be a source of frustration, anguish, negativity or mean-spiritedness, and I transgressed that pact myself. I live a very different life from the one I inhabited a few years ago, and sometimes looking backward can be not only hard, but damaging. Mea culpa.
On to bigger and brighter things.

The right move in every way.

I gotta say - being distant from the personal pain involved - that I thought both the piece and the response I saw from the programmer guy were incredibly well written and indicative of the events of the era. All I could think in relation to both was Burns: "Wud some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as other see us". I hope it all wasn't deleted.
Hey ian, just thought I'de come by and check this thing out, don't have the time to read it cause im feeling illiterate right now, but it looks good. I got tommorow off from school cause of the cold so im stoked about that. Hope to see you soon.

Ian, I have to disagree with you (and with MP) about removing today's post.
Regardless of who was more right about actual events, you told the story brilliantly and dammit -- we, your loyal readers, deserve to read your best stuff, even if (maybe especially if) it rubs some folks the wrong way.
I don't think it's possible to live an honest life without hurting others' feelings sometimes. Or without others hurting yours.
Taking down the post just smacks too much of "Screw you guys; I'm going home."
I enjoyed the peice this morning and was looking forward to the 2nd installment. Any chance you could post it to a super-secret blog that only your regular blog readers know about (maybe in a lock box somewhere with our social security money) - kind of an alter-ego for this blog that doesn't mind pissing on other people's corn flakes? I'm sure you're doing the right thing, but it only makes me more curious about what I missed in the earlier comments!
Well, here's why I removed it: there were a few things in there that were hurtful, and I didn't do a god job explaining the things I had done wrong as well. There were a lot of excellent people at that dot-com, but sometimes you run roughshod over everybody in order to have funny writing. That, and it just brought up a lot of stuff from my past life that sorta made me sick. All of that was a long time ago (and the blog itself was written primarily in 2001, not long after the events themselves).
Alan's right - it was a crazy time. There is a story in there somewhere, but this isn't the place for it.
