fume, grimace, gnash

9/1/04

I've been exhorted by a few of my friends to watch the RNC on TV. James Carville even sent out a letter to the faithful saying "this is how we get fired up!" and still others say "know thine enemy," but I'm sorry, I just can't. Those people make me shudder with the kind of rage that gives a growing boy aneurisms. I already know mine enemy, and I am already WAY too goddamn fired up.

This particular news cycle, one that has lasted 3 weeks or so, has been a downer for sensitive, thinking Americans as Bush's numbers climb a little, and Kerry still has the ghost pain of that shameful Swift Boat ordeal. I suppose we have to believe this too will pass, and Sunday's "60 Minutes" – where Ben Barnes finally spills how he kept Bush out of Vietnam – may be a nice little comeuppance.

Still, this week has to be about other stuff. We're leaving for points West right after Labor Day, and in the meantime we've got to straighten out our East Coast lives. For me, that means having a Labor Day party, and for Tessa, that means worrying about the mess the Labor Day party will make.

I got these cool game show buzzers off eBay, and plan to have a little quiz show with the guests. Possible categories:

Name that tune: 2000s
Name that tune: 80s
Name that tune: 90s
Idiosyncrasies of our Friends
Republicans We Despise
TV Detritus
Shapes of States
Astrology for Dummies
Cruel Rumors
Dead, gay or both?
Movie Detritus
Childhood Toys
Name that Philosophy
Simpsons quotes

Sean Patrick suggested Ian's Worst Blog Entries, but we can't be too self-referential, can we? And I mean that in the royal "we."

Anyone else have any clever ideas?

Do we need a "Super Soaker" Vodka Shotgun, or are we a little geriatric for that now?

Oh, I went to I-tunes for Rebecca Martin (I'll buy from her site). Did you see the current pictue of "Tears for Fears", it illicits both.

Aw, C'mon...watching Zell and Cheney remove their human-masks to reveal their sharp-toothed reptile faces is FUN.

Over on dkos, they're speculating that Zell will springboard his speech into a Glad Bag commercial:

"Zell Miller is mad!"

"KERRY HATES ALL WEAPONS...AND NOW MY TRASH BAG WON'T TIE!"

"Here, try this."

"GET AWAY FROM ME, DEVIL WOMAN!"

"Things to yell when a layup is missed"
It might be better to save that one until after the kids are in bed.

A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.
