Since my blog occasionally doubles as a scrapbook for whatever we happened to be doing at the time, I needed to make an entry with pictures for the extended family and friends in far-flung places. So here's a few pics with short explanations.
First off, we took Lucy ice skating in Bryant Park, but they wouldn't allow her on the ice. What a bunch of ageists! She didn't seem to mind, however:

This is me with (from left) my mom, Sean, Michelle and Jordana. This was probably about four drinks into our Xmas gathering:

I love this picture of Michelle with the Bug at a diner in the meatpacking district:

On Chopin's last day, I carried him to the front door, where the sun had just come out in a brilliant display. I wanted him to have one more afternoon with that feeling against his fur. Tessa comforts him while commiserating with old friends that knew him well:

Between me, Melissa and Neighborhoodies, we were determined to have A Very Symmetrical Christmas™:

I've tried many of these shots with the timer - I have to set the camera, then run across the living room to the back of the table - but the chances of getting an 8-month-old to look at the camera when the timer goes off? Astronomical. At least I thought so, but:

I got one of the best presents of my entire life for Xmas - my entire family chipped in to buy me a drum set. It is so cool that I feel like I just got my first 10-speed:

This was the first Christmas for a lot of our little friends, so we got together with (from left) Laurie and baby Polly, Dana and toddler Jackson, Nell and baby Hank, and, you know, the usual suspects:

Couldn't resist posting this pic of the two coolest women I know, taken by Block matriarch Susan Stava:

While we were taking this, I didn't realize we'd end up looking so... um, Mormon:

A little late, but I've just now made my New Years resolution. When people ask me how my holidays were, my first comment is going to be how great it was to see my family...instead of bitching about getting bumped from my Northworst flight, having my luggage lost, etc...
Family is, like, cool and stuff. Great pics.
Thanks for sharing! Beautiful photos of beautiful (inside and out) people. Your family and friends are so damn cute! The Chopin photo is heartbreaking. Lucy looks so much like Michelle!
Did you happen to see the Frey interview on CNN? I thought that he articulated very well the meaning of memoir and the subjective nature of writing about events that occurred 20 years ago. Despite Larry King's sloppy interview skills (he did not even bother to familiarize himself with the book), Frey defended himself well. And, my hero Oprah came to the rescue at the very end, supporting Frey and his book.
His situation is completely different from Leroy's (which I still don't really understand). Anyway, I really recommend that you read his books. They are brilliant.
Wonderful pictures! I love the dinner pic -- c'mon, now; Lucy knew just what to do! And the one of Tessa and Chopes is very touching.
Susan Stava took all the best pictures I have of my wedding. She's brilliant.Your family looks happy and beautiful. Merry Christmas.
Seeing Sean with gray hair is a shock....I remember the skinny teenager visiting us in 1987.
I'll put my Frey comments in the other entry.
These are fantastic pics. Now with two to chase, no one seems to be able to get their hands on a camera in my house...this means very few holiday pics! Must resolve to try harder. Keep up the good work!
Lucy is a natural for the camera, btw.
And that's an amazing dining table...comfortably seating 14? How is that done?
Love the blog entry for today! When I grew up, the only pictures we had were from birthdays and Christmas. I love the fact that Brad's family carries a camera around all the time and just snaps a couple photos here and there for no particular reason. Often, those are the best pictures. By far better than my Dad's attempt to chronicle every gift he's ever given someone. :P
Your family is a rosy-cheeked, fun-loving bunch!!
(and I, too, envy the table that accommodates at least 14 - how many leaves are in that thing???)
I have table envy as well. I would get that big family picture blown up. Such a happy sight.
There aren't a ton of pictures of us growing up, so I am pretty vigilant about keeping a scrapbook for our son. I don't put little hearts over everything, but yes, I do cut the pictures into shapes, throw, some stickers on there, and write little journal comments. I crop and I don't care who knows it, damn it!
I don't know much, but I know that the scene in that big dining room picture is exactly the picture I would have drawn if I were asked to draw Ian Williams happiest dream day. I hope your winter cold had not already kicked in.
i didn't know you played drums! my band is auditioning drummers right now...
That dining room table is one of my favorite things in existence. We got it for relatively cheap at a (now sadly defunct) antique barn in Dutchess County, and if you can believe it, it has 14 leaves. The pic above only has 11-12 of the leaves in place. I'm still waiting for a 14-leave event.
LOL..just the thought of **storing** 14 leaves makes me swoon.
I also forgot to mention..the Williams Family have great teeth!
