chartreuse journalism

7/12/06

Still sick, but thought it would be a good time for some news bulletins:

- first off, oft-commenter Deb is pregnant! Mazel tov and much joyous congratulations for another baby joining the brood!

- I saw oft-commenter Kaz at drinks the other night, and she's super cool, boys. Turns out we knew each other two other ways besides this blog.

- Tessa and I went to a '70s Party the other night, even though we didn't have any period clothes per se...

IanTessa1970sParty(bl).jpg

- I've been asked for years for a blog-together of some sort, and if you can plan to be in NYC in late August and enjoy seat-of-your-pants theater, we might be able to make that happen.

- I searched for months, and finally found the perfect "sunburst" style 1950s wall clock for our living room. Ebay rocks!

SunburstClockVenice(bl).jpg
runs on a C battery!

- After 14 years of loyal service, my sister Michelle's cat Fezzik passed away and gave us some of Michelle's best writing. Please visit and say a few words to a little animal you never knew.

- Comments are open to any pertinent - or preferably, mundane - news you have to offer!

dear michelle, I'm so, so, so sorry to hear about your cat. you made the right choice, the only choice you could. as an accidental and dedicated pet owner myself (this girl left edith the dog with me after we broke up; now I've had edith longer than she and I were together, which was kind of a long time), please know I'm with you in your time of grief. I read your entry and am very sad.

All you really need is a big gold chain with a big gold medallion around your neck!

Posted by: scruggs at July 13, 2006 04:31 AM

Congrats, Deb.

We went to a retro party for NYE this year, so I've included a link to a few pictures so Bozoette Mary can get her gold chain fix. Got my outfit for $2.50! I felt compelled to include the last picture of Madonna passed out in her kids' room. Partying ain't like it used to be.

Today will be a day of news for us as we find out the gender of our baby in the works this afternoon.

Congratulations Deb!

Michelle -- I am so sorry about Fezzik.

Ian - we just unloaded a sunburst clock just like that one (although it was not in as good condition) at the dump last month! We had inherited it from my in-laws. . . I would have sent it to you if I had known!

Scruggs - how exciting!

Does anyone else think that Tessa looks just like Cheryl Tiegs in that photo?

You know how you feel about man toes? Some feel that way about blinding white man chests. Get well soon.

Posted by: Anne at July 13, 2006 05:16 AM

Love the clock. Yes, it is perfect.

Michelle, the loss of our fur friends leaves a huge hole in our hearts. I am so very sorry.

Posted by: Lee at July 13, 2006 06:16 AM

Congrats Deb!

And Michelle, I'm so sorry about your kitty!

Posted by: Deb at July 13, 2006 06:21 AM

Wow! Thanks for the mention, Ian! Lucy's gonna have TWO young'uns to show the ropes now (Jordana and I are about 9 weeks apart). And thanks, well-wishing posters! Those of you with kids who have sagaciously posted over the last year, thanks as well; we will most definitely be using said posts as reference material.

Posted by: Reader at July 13, 2006 06:49 AM

It'd be neat to meet the other posters here; please let us know when the date is - maybe dinner beforehand would be in order.

Ian, you're looking so svelte!

Deb, congratulations! Sean and Jordana, ditto!

Michelle, I'd post on your blog, but I don't think I can read your post again right now. My dog is very sick, and I thought a couple of days ago as I looked into his eyes that I hoped I would have the courage to say goodbye when it was best for him and not for me. And that's what you were able to do for Fezzik. My heart is with you.

hey everyone, for those of you have haven't met ian (or tessa) in the flesh, i can vouch that he's as witty, intense, and charming in person as he is on this here blog...

thanks for the kind words, ian. hope you're on the mend, and i look forward to more coincidences and run-ins while you're on this coast.

;)

congrats to deb!!

and, michelle, i've been in your shoes. there's no comfort to really offer, but know that you'll smile fondly with memories when this hurt has passed. sigh.

Posted by: xuxE at July 13, 2006 08:34 AM

totally tres cheryl tiegs, you nailed that one laurie.

happy baby news!!

can i just say how jealous i am of all the new baby mamas, because they absolutely did not have anything remotely resembling mia bossi diaper bags back when i had to schlep one around. it could seriously be the solution to post partum depression.

well, on the personal news tip, i just started putting my kid pictures from our vacation on a blog, the link is on my name. my older son and my husband are starring in a movie and production starts tomorrow and i am turning into an obnoxious stage mom. dad and kids are all heading back east in early august when one of my husband's bands does the round 2 east coast tour. the new club templesf is about to open. i haven't picked up my bass in like 3 weeks and i am hella stressed. i'd love to do the blog posse meet-up and in fact i would like to place my cocktail order right now.

by the way - anyone in nyc have extra room to put up a couple of musicians first week in august?

Posted by: mcf at July 13, 2006 10:23 AM

michelle: i'd have posted directly on your site but i cant seem to do it unless i set up my own blog? [and i am not ready to join the ranks of all of you brave bloggers just yet!]

this said: i have tears in my eyes. you did the right thing. it would have been MUCH worse to have allowed him to suffer... even for a moment. THAT would have been the selfish choice...

Posted by: eric g. at July 13, 2006 11:30 AM

First off, Michelle, I've never met you and I never knew your cat, but as the proud owner of four pets who lost his first cat, Tennessee, age 13 (beloved to many, including frequent poster and all-around wonderful dude Chris Chapman), to diabetes and general old age last August, I feel deep sympathy for you. Sometimes I feel like pets are too central to my life, but then my pug snuggles up next to me on my bed and my Japanese Chin comes up and licks my face and I understand everything all over again.

So, news...I am leaving San Francisco and moving back to Chicago to take an in-house legal position with HSBC Bank. Goodbye billable hour. I can't wait!

Looking good, Ian and Tessa. Chartreuse indeed!

My news is always mundane. First, here is a recent family portrait. Our German friends came over to watch the world cup with us on the 4th of July, and brought the flag grease stick.

http://static.flickr.com/46/188970419_407dfce3c7.jpg

This is totally random, but has anyone noticed vehicles in your area with "In Memory" decals on the back windshield? The first ones I noticed were in memory of guys killed in Iraq (I assume). They said "In memory of PFC Jose Hernandez" and the dates of his birth and death. It seemed weird, but somehow I accepted it because I assumed these women were either Mothers or sisters who wanted to let the world know their kin died for our country (or oil, however you want to look at it.) But now I'm seeing some that are clearly not military related. Yesterday I was behind a new Tahoe, and the woman had not gotten her permanent CA plates yet. But she'd already gone and gotten "In Memory of Pam Young - MOM" put on the back of her car. I wanted to ask her if she bought the car in her Moms memory? Or with money she inherited? Or were her Moms ashes in the car with her? Is it just me, or is this totally bizarre? Anyone outside of Orange County CA seeing these decals?

That's all I have time for now. I'm off to pick up Ethan at Discovery Science Center camp!

One more thing: Ian, you look very svelte! People cannot call you fat. Tessa looks beautiful, as always. And congratulations to Deb!

Posted by: xuxE at July 13, 2006 03:35 PM

people in our hood are still going with the write-RIP-directly-on-the-windows-and-tape-pictures approach.

Posted by: LFMD at July 13, 2006 06:33 PM

Eric -- congratulations on your move. Billable hours are indeed hideous.

Ian -- now I wish I had my clock back. Your's is cool. And, congrats on the weight loss. You look great! How'd you do it? I need to cram myself into a strapless bridesmaid's gown in September, and I dread it, yet I have not had any success losing lbs.

Posted by: block at July 13, 2006 07:11 PM

it's amazing how much hotter you look NOW than you did in the actual 70's. T - you were always HOT!

Posted by: oliver at July 16, 2006 05:37 PM

The wardrobe works but your expressions don't suggest to me 70s thoughts.
