ooh la la

Enough righteous indignation from me... my computer cried uncle and I'm writing from my cell phone. Which leads me to today's CODE WORD question: what are you wearing?

No, seriously, what are you wearing this very second?

Answers not allowed:
a) "nothing"
b) "a grin" etc.
c) lies

So?

I'm about to go running, so I have on a tank top and running shorts. I also threw on sweatpants for the dog walk, because the weather went straight from sweltering to chilly. I'm okay with that. In fact, chilly is ideal in my book.

And now it's time to go put on running shoes and socks. Hope your computer recovers soon, Ian!

Posted by: killian at September 13, 2007 03:32 AM

uh, a) nothing. just sitting naked at my computer with my morning coffee. but i AM about to get dressed to go to work.

I'm wearing my morning uniform-
jeans-
t-shirt I slept in-
Equest sweatshirt-
glasses that no one else sees me in except my husband, son and dogs-
ponytail-

Posted by: Anne at September 13, 2007 04:18 AM

LOL... caught me in my morning attire. I am wearing a muumuu-like housedress thingie in a dark navy floral print that is my bathrobe in temperate weather. I bought it when I was pregnant (over 15 years ago) and it's so comfy, I can't go back to anything else.

Posted by: Neva at September 13, 2007 04:27 AM

My Mon/Thurs uniform (the days I'm not working) of running shorts (Moving Comfort brand - awesome! I have three pairs of these - todays is black with pink stripes down the sides), Carolina blue jog bra (Under Armour - again, I have total brand loyalty here) and a very, old, ratty white cotton tank top. I have tried the quick dry material for running shirts but decided I prefer good old cotton for mopping up sweat. In case you are looking for good deals on the above, I buy most outdoor/workout stuff at http://www.sierratradingpost.com. Very good prices, especially nice shoes.
Trying to psych myself up for leaving for the long run. Thanks for giving me a diversion.
So, Ian, how about you??

Posted by: Bozoette Mary at September 13, 2007 04:35 AM

My comfy purple nightgown, for I am not going into work today.

Posted by: Susan at September 13, 2007 04:41 AM

Maternity top and shorts to accentuate my 7 month belly. :)

Posted by: scruggs at September 13, 2007 04:43 AM

Still in what I slept in:

mesh shorts with Hobart Lacrosse on them

blue (guess what color) t-shirt with Carolina and other Tar Heel propaganda on it

Posted by: wyatt at September 13, 2007 04:49 AM

Guess rectangularish eyeglasses, Timex IronMan watch, black PearlIzumi bike shorts, silver and gold wedding band. Had a good ride around the army base this a.m. The soldiers really do get up at 5:30am for calisthenics and cadence calls; I wouldn't want to fight them. Returned home in time to watch the girls pedal off to 1st grade, and The Job.

And my 4-yr old is on my knee, lobbying for his turn in the driver's seat: http://pbskids.org/games/

Posted by: LFMD at September 13, 2007 04:51 AM

Damn! I wish I were in a muumuu like Anne! We are business casual here at the Insurance Job, so I am top to bottom LL Bean. With pearl earring and my work ID and lanyard hanging around my neck.

Posted by: kent at September 13, 2007 05:03 AM

um, t shirt and underwear. It's early dude.

Posted by: Lorelle at September 13, 2007 05:08 AM

I'm wearing my scrubs because I'm about to leave for work.
Neva, I love Sierra Trading Post!!

Posted by: emma at September 13, 2007 05:12 AM

Like Beth and Neva - the running uniform. I'll head to the gym after I drop Mary Emma off at preschool. For me, the running uniform is Adidas running shorts (black with three white stripes down the side), light purple Adidas tank (three black stripes down the side) (can't believe you prefer cotton, Neva), two Champion running bras (one white and one Carolina blue), a pair of New Balance 857 that need replacing and a ponytail. Last but not least is my newest purchase - a pair of purple and black Wrightsocks - Coolmesh.

Posted by: Greg T. at September 13, 2007 05:16 AM

I'm dressed in my standard uniform for my corporate job:

Brown suit pants - Jos. A. Banks
White starched dress shirt (no monogram) - Brooks Bros.
Copper/Gold tie - Brooks Bros.
Black dress shoes - Bostonian
Black socks - Costco
White t-shirt - Costco
Carolina blue boxer-briefs - Hanes

I read this on my way downstairs to grab my belt.

Posted by: Bud at September 13, 2007 05:22 AM

Business casual. Green/gray dress pants, Carolina blue dress shirt, casual dress shoes(and my still-new wedding ring).

I'm at the office, starting the workday. Today was the first cool morning of fall in central Jersey, with a low in the mid 50s. I saw alot of people wearing light jackets....

Posted by: eric g. at September 13, 2007 05:32 AM

My first meeting of the day got cancelled, so I'm still wearing what I slept in as I sit in my comfy chair typing on my laptop: a brown t-shirt that has a cartoon picture of a pug on it (there's a real pug sleeping in my lap) and green Old Navy boxer shorts.

Posted by: Emily at September 13, 2007 05:39 AM

Since my apartment is about 85 degrees right now and I have no way to control the temperature, I'm in a blue bra and pink underwear, both from American Eagle (they have great sales). Still sweating, though.

Neva, thanks for the sierratradingpost link... I'm in the process of moving to a ski town and need to invest in a large quantity of long underwear; their prices are fantastic!

Posted by: gina at September 13, 2007 05:40 AM

Should get dressed for work, but right now -- pink and light blue plaid Old Navy pajama pants and a yellow sleeveless johnny collar top from Target. The only item I've put on for work so far is my watch...better get going since I was supposed to be at work in 8 minutes!

Posted by: chip at September 13, 2007 05:51 AM

Since I am about to log on to work network I am about to complete my work uniform by putting on a pair of plaid shorts to go with the boxer shorts and T-shirt I'm wearing. I figure I should dress up for work.

BTW, I'm wearing my Bash-Bish Bicycle T-Shirt (Copake Falls, NY)...one of my faves because it brings back such happy memories of Columbia County.

Posted by: chip at September 13, 2007 05:54 AM

It turns out I can't go to work quite yet because the cutest dog in the world has brought me his rubber bone so it looks like I'm up for a rousing game of fetch.

From head to toe:

1. A big smile because we had a confirming ultrasound yesterday that my wife is pregnant with our second child and all systems are go for a March, 2008 delivery.

2. White, straight collar shirt from Jos. A. Banks.

3. Coppe-colored tie from Jos. A. Banks.

4. Green suit pants with a faint Carolina blue stripe, 1/2 of the Jos. A. Banks suit I'll be wearing tonight at trial (night court).

5. Mesh dark blue running shorts (as underwear)

6. black socks from Parisian (which was just bought out by Belk's)

7. Black cap-toe dress shoes I got on sale at Parisian as part of their "we're about to become Belk's" blowout sale.

And did I mention that smile?

Posted by: josie at September 13, 2007 06:19 AM

The uniform of the self-employed: Jeans and a T-shirt. The t-shirt is pink, because, even though I am a harried mommy, I hope to maintain some modicum of style.

Posted by: Anne D. at September 13, 2007 06:22 AM

Update: At work now, I am in office mufti: stretchy glen-plaid slacks in black/white/lime green, and matching lime tank, with 3/4 sleeve lightweight sweater over it. It's much nicer than it sounds! All from the Liz Claiborne outlet; man, I love that place! But I'd still rather be at home wearing the aforementioned muumuu. ;-)

I second the applause for Sierra Trading Post's online catalog. Check out their deals on shoes... some of my favorites like Merrell, Josef Seibel, etc., at amazing prices. Also: boots. (the real kind that are warm and waterproof)

Posted by: Beth at September 13, 2007 06:31 AM

Congratulations, GFWD!!! What wonderful news!

Posted by: Sean M. at September 13, 2007 06:37 AM

Jeans (Diesel), white/grey striped polo shirt (Abercrombie), black briefs (Banana Republic). I don't think I've ever sounded more gay. Maybe if I listed my hair product? Nah, I won't do that.

Posted by: Tanya at September 13, 2007 06:49 AM

GFWD - Congratulations! Those confirming ultrasounds are fantastic mood-enhancers. I had one last week, confirming a healthy-so-far baby due in mid-April.

As for what I'm wearing, it's what I call my Johnny Cash look - black Asian-inspired wrap shirt and long black swingy pants. I'm wearing a new pair of shoes - black ballet flats with little leopard print bows on the end.

Posted by: tregen at September 13, 2007 06:59 AM

just underwear...but I'll get dressed in an hour or so.

Posted by: LFMD at September 13, 2007 07:14 AM

Congratulations GFWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: GFWD at September 13, 2007 07:14 AM

Beth and Tanya, thank you and good luck to you Tanya.

Emily, I don't believe you. Please send photographic proof that your clothes really are American Eagle products!

Posted by: emma at September 13, 2007 07:17 AM

Greg - Congratulations again. Now how is that going to work with March Madness? And didn't you say March 28th in your e-mail. I'm thinking final four time. Let us know how that conversation goes between you and Renae in determining your whereabouts at that time.

Posted by: Claudia at September 13, 2007 08:03 AM

Black skirt, red T-shirt, and comfortable-if-worn shoes. Sitting next to me is a bag containing the silk scarf, cashmere cardigan, and pumps that make the clothes look like an outfit, but that I removed after about 15 minutes of discomfort.

Posted by: GFWD at September 13, 2007 08:08 AM

Thanks LFMD and Emma. Thankfully, the Final Four is April 5-7, 2008. I'll give my wife black market Pitocin myself if the baby gets too close to those dates!

Posted by: Rebecca at September 13, 2007 08:21 AM

JJill compassion t-shirt and linen skirt, Dansko sandals.

Congrats to Greg! It will be hard to have a baby that's cuter than your first, I mean dimples? The child is ADORABLE.

Today is my third child Henry's first day of preschool. So for the first time in 8 1/2 years, I will have some free time to myself. I want to jump for joy and cry at the same time. My baby is not a baby anymore!

Standard "working at a tech company" gear:

- Old Navy ringer t-shirt with "omaha eagles" on the front. (I know no one from Omaha, and haven't been there since I was a kid.)
- Gap blue jeans
- Gap plaid button shirt
- "hated by everyone else by adored by me" Crocs.
- mechanic's jacket (it's a bit chilly in Indiana today)
- Claddagh ring from my girlfriend
- awesome geeky digital watch

Posted by: Neva at September 13, 2007 10:05 AM

I'll add congrats again to GFWD, you little poon-hound you, and Tanya. Spring sounds like a good time to have a baby.

Posted by: kjf at September 13, 2007 10:30 AM

a pair of cut off sweats and an old dallas stars t shirt (who the hell are the dallas stars anyway) - just got back from physical therapy for my torn ACL.

Posted by: salem's little sister at September 13, 2007 11:24 AM

As a temporary and former Dallasite, I can answer the Dallas Stars question. They are a professional hockey team and they actually won the Stanley Cup while I lived there in 1999. Pantera wrote the team's "song" which sounded like derranged ogres screaming "Dallas . . . Stars" over and over and over.

Posted by: Ian at September 13, 2007 11:45 AM

I'm wearing a pair of black and gray Vans, Ex Officio boxer briefs, Quiksilver white plaid shorts and a Piggly Wiggly T-shirt I saw for sale on Main Street in Santa Monica.

However, when I asked the question last night, I was wearing boxers with maps of Maine on them, and my New Orleans Saints 1967 shirt.

Congrats to GFWD and Tanya!!!

Posted by: Neva at September 13, 2007 12:05 PM

That's so funny. I just came in from getting the mail and had a conversation with my neighbor about her cool Piggly Wiggly tee shirt she happened to be wearing today! They don't have that grocery store in California do they? It has become surprisingly upscale now, I've heard.

Posted by: Alan at September 13, 2007 12:39 PM

Stone LL Bean chinos, blue button down LL Bean long sleeve oxford, 20 year old brown Doc Martins. And a computer generated slouch as I count the 40 minutes left in my day at the desk.

Posted by: emma at September 13, 2007 12:47 PM

Maybe the t-shirts are upscale. I saw some for sale in a high priced boutique downtown this weekend, but our two Piggly Wiggly grocery stores in town are NOT upscale.

Posted by: tbruns at September 13, 2007 12:50 PM

Jeans -really really comfortable well worn jeans, and my work polo shirt in fashionable grey. Reebocks and (since you mentioned them in a long ago post) black and comfortable boxer briefs.

Posted by: Lorelle at September 13, 2007 01:25 PM

Emma, we've got a few gross old Pigs in Bham, but we do have a new one that is quite upscale... kinda like a small Whole Foods.

Posted by: cullen at September 13, 2007 02:26 PM

It's (pickup) game on pretty soon here, so I'm in a not exactly wickable but at least honestly stolen 'FG' gray tee, the standard issue at Woollen Gym for Phys. Ed. Lets see, there's that plus these ugly-ass yellow run-shorts (that are evidently somewhat transparent in the ocean, who knew?) that I'll need to properly cover before hitting the hardwood so that I don't too much resemble one Billy Ho. I've got some great G-town Lax shorts, sacrilege that they are for true blue me, but they're somewhat lucky and just the right kinda saggy, er baggy. Let's see, my hi-tops are Nikes and my run-kicks are Sauconys. Happy good honest sweat to all.

Posted by: Ian at September 13, 2007 04:31 PM

Cullen, where do you ball?

Posted by: c at September 13, 2007 04:32 PM

And BTW, they's still many a Piggly-Wiggly that'd scoff at bein' called up-scale cuz 'upscale' doesn't equal 'friendly, neighborhood' and sounds a little snotty. Let's just say some of the newer, revamped P_W's are blessed with a more diverse product selection.

Posted by: cullen at September 13, 2007 06:57 PM

Ian, ah, Nassau Co. and beyond..but none in memory funner or finer than aforementioned WG when it was hoppin'. You've mentioned Carrboro Park or the Lodge/frat courts for 1/2, and I recall nice full games at Umstead Park (w/the likes of THE Liquid Pleasure) or the Chapel Hill REc. Center at times or Granville (rarely). But pickup (or tennis) was always good times with Patrick Sullivan or Leon Johnson or Tonya Sampson or Dante Calabria or Neil Balas or CHarlotte Smith or Ben McIver or the UNC Glee Club or...:)

Posted by: Alison Byrne Fields at September 13, 2007 08:47 PM

A red cotton plaid robe that I bought at Target (in the men's department) that looks nothing at all like the garments in the Playboy catalog that I mysteriously received in the mail yesterday. (What mailing list am I on? How do "they" know that I actually watch "Girls Next Door" whenever I get the chance?)

By the way, Ian, I've been lurking for a couple of months now, but it's been great to read you again.

Posted by: Annie at September 13, 2007 10:01 PM

Well, a tie-dyed skirt (NO!!! YES!!! YES IT IS TRUE!!!) in a lovely sort of Wedgwood blue, with white TIE-DYE splotches (it's lovely for spinning with the hoop) and I got it at Townsend Bertram here in C-boro, but I don't remember what company made it because I rip the labels about of everything (strictly for comfort--though I don't mind ridding the world of little bits of corporate identity here and there either). And...a tank top (still summer here in NC!) in a close-to-Navy shade of blue. And I got it, very cheaply, at Nordstrom.

HAPPY for GFWD and Tanya--wonderful news!

Posted by: kmeelyon at September 13, 2007 10:26 PM

oh Ian, I thought you'd NEVER ask! I am wearing black socks, GAP jeans, black lace panties, a red bra, and a red thermal top with a print of stars and guitars on it that i bought in some teen girl catalogue.

and i feel like i'm wearing five extra bellies after the huge dinner i had with friends tonite.

my hair is in a ponytail with a black elastic band, and i have two bobby pins in the back holding up the frizz.

did i mention the extra stomaches?
