castor and pollux

And here they are! Around midnight last night, Jiffer gave birth to a healthy, wonderful set of twins: a girl, and then 20 minutes later, a boy. Girl presently roolz at 7.5 pounds, and the boy droolz (but is cute) at 6.8 pounds. The girl has curly dark hair like her momma! No names yet, they're still percolating.

And oh yeah... NATURAL CHILDBIRTH. Mom and Dad are tired, but doing great. Jif, you are our hero. Ingo, you're about to be. Huzzah!

[update: more pics and email from Ingo:]

Dear all,
this is just briefly, as I am running a couple of errands between diaper-changes. I don´t want to take it away from Jiff, and I can assure you all that she is dying to put yesterday´s events in writing for you once she gets access to email, so I am only gonna say this: THANK YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH for the wonderful support, best wishes and good karma sent from all around the world. It helped Jiff enormously mastering a feat which I am still deeply awed by. Attached find the first picture after delivery, everyone still a bit battle-torn but glorious (see the girl´s thick dark hair behind my hand?!). The other after they had their first round of breast-milk!

More to come (especially names!!!) soon,
again thanks so much,
we love you all,

INGO

Congrats, Jiffer and Ingo!!

I'm tempted to say you conceived the night we all went to Il Latini (http://www.illatini.com/)
but most pregnancies take more like ten months, which means you were already preggers when we climbed the Duomo.

Regardless, we're so happy for you both and glad Jif doesn't have to tote around that weight anymore.

What about Michele and Angelo? For names, I mean.

The amazing thing is that she sounded like she was having just any old day when she called me with the news yesterday! I asked her whether she shouldn't be pushing or grunting or something of that sort and she just responded: "Nope, we've done that already. We have two babies." Totally deadpan - She truly is WonderWoman!

I feel very honored to be among the first to meet Fritz&Fratz (Working Titles) later today!

YAY! Now the real fun starts. I wish for you the most sincere of sentiments from one twin parent to another... congruent napping & feeding! My Boy / Girl toddler twins are the best of buddies, always looking out for each other. It does get easier. Congrats to you both!

I think I have a crush on Ingo, Jiff, and the wonder twins! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY. You guys make Brangelina look like a bunch of schlubs.

Those babies are so precious -- and TWINS! What a wonderful bond they will have.

Hurrah for Jiffer and Ingo! How wonderful to see your new family. So happy for you, but wishing all the more that we all lived CLOSER--dang! Why doesn't everybody move back to Chapel Hill?

Names:

girl: Tyler
boy: Hansbrough (you're in Germany, you can shorten it to 'Hans'!)

Alternatives:

Dean (unisex)
Jordan (unisex)

Well, if you think these two kids photograph well...wait 'til you see them in person, because they are absolutely precious! The boy is a blonde and blue-eyed wonder, with an intense gaze for his mama and daddy, and the girl is all mysterious allure with her dark eyes and amazing hair! They are both gorgeous and the parents are valiant though exhausted! Fantastic to have been a part of this nine-month ride with all of its ups..

Goo!!!
HANSel and Greatl!!
How 'bout Fergin and Oji (or Ijo, Jio); those are the only 'plausible' combos I can find when re-arranging the letters in Jiffer and Ingo.
Someone else try. Until we learn the new names, anything else is a waste of time. Hip, hip..
