You know it's the end of summer when movies like this start showin up. Mira Sorvino "stars" as a scientist who has genetically altered a species of cockroaches to stop a plague from hitting New York City's children. Three years later, some of the arthropod survivors form a cadre of superbugs that "mimic" their predators, i.e., us.
Short on science, even shorter on characters, and bereft of any sense whatsoever, "Mimic" should be white-outed from Mira Sorvino's resume, in the event she gets the chance to do something as cool as "Mighty Aphrodite" ever again. The only thing remotely plausible about this flick are the bugs themselves—a race of cockroaches so much more cunning than the movie that I was actually hoping they would devour all of our protagonists in the subway.
Wait for the dollar theater ('cuz renting it is $2.50).
