One of those movies that happened to catch the zeitgeist of the public at the right time, "The First Wives Club" resonated deeply with older females across America who were tired of men leaving them for younger women. The vast majority of the audience probably never had it happen to them personally, but it's always nice to have a 2-hour laugh at the other gender's expense. The movie's not bad—a mixture of slapstick and genuine sadness—until it unravels in the final half hour into a weepy morality play that runs out of things to say.
